Enough Hype, Let's Go...

There are a few different options on the market when it comes to protecting your RV from a tire blowout. This post will compare and contrast the two most popular options: Rettroband blowout protection and the RV-DE-FENDER®.
Rettroband Blowout Protection enables the driver to continue driving safely to the side of the road in the event of a blowout. This is accomplished by securely attaching a solid ring around the rim, which can then be driven on should a blowout happen.
In a test, they attached a small explosive to the front driver side wheel of a motor home, and then blew the charge while they were going approximately 65mph. The controlled blowout had no effect on the drivers’ performance, and they were able to bring the motor home safely to a stop. To see it in action, here is a great article and video.
RV-DE-FENDER™ is designed to help prevent damage to your trailer/RV should you experience a blowout. The system consists of a specialized fender that bolts directly to the axle, which is a first of its kind. When the tire blows out, the fender both contains the blowout and stops it from damaging other tires, and your trailer or RV. For more information, click here.
Rettroband and RV-DE-FENDER® are two of the most popular tire blowout protection products on the market. However, the similarities stop there.
Rettroband is designed to help drivers safely pull over in the case of a blowout, and is primarily used on the front tires of motor homes, where the ability to steer and stop would be paramount should a blowout happen on one of those tires.
RV-DE-FENDER™ on the other hand is designed to help minimize the damage from blowouts.
So the key difference between the two products is that Rettroband is designed as a safety feature for motor homes and other rim types, whereas RV-DE-FENDER® is designed specifically as a protective measure for RVs and Trailers.
If your intent is safety and protection from damage, then both of these products could be used depending on your needs.
After comparing the two products, it is clear that the Rettroband and RV-DE-FENDER® both have something to offer in the space, and comparing them is like comparing apples to oranges.
